Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced, individual contributor with a high degree of technical competence and expertise in the areas of network design, rollout, and management. The Network Engineer is responsible for the data center and user-facing LANs, WAN, and network services for Gwinnett County. This position will work independently and as part of the team to identify opportunities and design solutions, configure and implement devices and software, and maintain and provide break fixes for the existing equipment and services in both project and day-to-day roles.

The ideal candidate will have solid communication skills and be able to mentor and manage junior employees in a fast-paced and changing environment. This position will be participating in the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links, including routers, VPN endpoints, network switches, network monitoring tools, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree is desired but not required.
  • CCNA or PCNSE are desired but not required.
  • Support large-scale Network Environment.
  • Layer 2, Layer 3, and Layer 7 support multi-site Edge and Data Centers.

Preferred Experience:

  • Current Cisco CCNP – Enterprise, Security, and/or Data Center certification
  • Current Palo Alto certification (PCCSA, PCNSA, PCNSE)
  • Fluke DTX cable testers with copper and fiber
  • Experience in Network Monitoring Systems and Device/Network Management Systems, like SNMP, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, Access Points, firewalls, and security.
  • Experience implementing and/or administering Intrusion Prevention or Network Access Control appliances a plus.
  • Experience implementing Wireless network solutions in large network environments.
  • Strong Layer 1-4 Knowledge
  • Extensive understanding of network cable standards and experience designing physical infrastructure for networks with 50 or more sites

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains network performance.
  • Builds net configurations and connections.
  • Troubleshoots network problems.
  • IP address auditing.
  • Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration and directing system installation.
  • Defines, documents, and enforces system standards.
  • Maximizes performance by troubleshooting network problems and outages and scheduling upgrades.
  • Configures routers, switches, firewalls, etc.
  • Updates data servers and network equipment.
  • Collaborates with network team members on network optimization.
  • Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies and defining and monitoring access.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Should have demonstrated behaviors with accountability and taking ownership.
  • Must have the ability to work both independently and in a group.
  • Provides technical support to County employees using various telecommunications and network systems.
  • Coordinating with vendors and customers for installations or service break fixes.
  • Designs, configures, tests, implements, and maintains a variety of hardware, software, peripheral devices, and systems.
  • Monitors and ensures systems meet business and performance needs.
  • The individual will be required to be on call after hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule with other team members.
  • The individual will also be required to work with and mentor other team members.
  • Perform configuration changes as required; advance level troubleshooting.
  • Technical implementation of telecommunications and network infrastructures.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems with the critical systems, servers, and equipment within a 24/7/365 Data Centre environment, handling the more complex and critical problems.
  • Respond to system emergencies as required.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
