If you're passionate about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (Gen AI), and you have a knack for identifying, managing, and mitigating emerging risks in cutting-edge technologies, this could be the opportunity for you.
About the Role: Lead the Charge in AI Risk Management
In this critical role within our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team, you'll be responsible for driving the AI risk management framework at American Express. You’ll ensure that AI technologies, including both Traditional AI and Gen AI, are adopted safely, ethically, and in alignment with regulatory requirements. By working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll identify novel risks, set governance protocols, and oversee the implementation of controls to protect our business, customers, and data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop & Execute AI Risk Frameworks: Implement comprehensive risk management policies to address the unique challenges of Traditional AI and Gen AI.
- Identify & Manage Novel Risks: Assess heightened risks related to AI and establish robust controls, working with business units to ensure effective mitigation.
- Collaboration & Governance: Partner with leaders in Technology, Privacy, Legal, and Data teams to align risk strategies and monitor adherence to risk appetite.
- AI Risk Reporting: Provide leadership with insights through Board and management reports, tracking Key Control Indicators (KCIs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Training & Awareness: Lead the creation of an enterprise-wide training module on AI risks, empowering colleagues to adopt best practices and stay compliant.
- Continuous Monitoring: Manage ongoing assessments of AI technologies, ensuring all systems meet risk management standards and remain secure throughout their lifecycle.
- Leadership & Strategy: Influence decision-making across various teams, ensuring AI risk management strategies are seamlessly integrated into our company’s broader goals.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
We’re seeking a highly skilled individual with a blend of technical expertise, risk management experience, and leadership ability. The ideal candidate will be comfortable navigating complex AI technologies and translating that knowledge into effective, actionable risk strategies.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, ideally with a focus on AI and emerging technologies.
- Expertise in AI technologies (Traditional AI, Gen AI, machine learning, etc.) and their associated risks.
- Background in Data Risk, Information Security, Privacy, Compliance, or related fields within the financial services industry.
- Advanced degree in Technology, Engineering, Risk Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to operationalize risk management frameworks, including working knowledge of financial services regulations, AI standards, and ethical AI practices.
- Familiarity with large language models (LLMs) and cloud-based AI deployments would be a plus.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to engage with cross-functional teams and influence key stakeholders at all levels.
- Industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, or similar) are a plus.
