At Apple, we are seeking a talented and driven Machine Learning Engineer/Scientist to join our Siri and Information Intelligence group. As a part of our fast-paced team, you’ll have the opportunity to build and refine powerful machine learning models that will drive the next generation of Apple's products—like Siri, Spotlight, Safari, and Messages.

Your Impact:

In this role, you will:

• Enhance Search & NLP Services: Develop, fine-tune, and evaluate domain-specific Large Language Models (LLMs) to power Apple's AI products, improving question answering, search relevance, ranking, and query understanding.
• Applied Research & Technology Transfer: Translate cutting-edge research in generative AI into production-ready solutions that will influence millions of users worldwide.
• End-to-End Model Development: Build machine learning systems from scratch, integrating search functions into Apple products and creating seamless user experiences.
• Leverage Big Data Tools: Utilize tools like Spark, Hadoop, Hive, and Impala to manage and process vast datasets and drive powerful insights.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze and optimize search ranking, relevance, and AI model requirements.
• Develop and fine-tune models for various NLP tasks such as query understanding and open-domain question answering.
• Drive research efforts to implement innovative AI solutions in real-world applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate search and question answering features into flagship Apple products.

You Are:

• Experienced in AI/ML: You have a strong background in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and LLM fine-tuning. You’re familiar with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and information retrieval.
• Proficient in Programming: You’re skilled in Python and comfortable with at least one additional programming language like Go, Java, or C++.
• Deep Learning Expertise: You have hands-on experience with frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX to build and deploy deep learning models.
• Team-Oriented & Collaborative: You have excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working within interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications:

• Required: BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field.
• Preferred: PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related discipline.
• Experience with large-scale data-mining and model inference optimization is a plus.
