What You'll Do:

Lead Data Product Lifecycles:

  • Take ownership of the entire lifecycle of a data product, from concept to retirement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define problems, integrate the right data sources, and build analytics engines that align with business goals.
  • Operationalize analytics solutions that provide actionable insights and directly contribute to quality and affordable healthcare for our customers.

Collaborate & Drive Business Impact:

  • Engage with key stakeholders across departments like actuarial, marketing, commercial, retail, and more to solve complex problems with data-driven solutions.
  • Help stakeholders articulate their problems clearly and recommend appropriate analytics solutions based on BCBSM's cutting-edge analytics methodologies.

Lead, Mentor, & Grow Talent:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data scientists, offering hands-on support to help them grow their skills and succeed in their roles.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality data science projects by managing and overseeing junior team members, helping them navigate challenges, and fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Innovation in Healthcare Analytics:

  • Work alongside the ACOE engineering and Enterprise IT teams to integrate and implement advanced analytics solutions into production systems that benefit both the organization and our members.
  • Use your expertise in big data platforms, machine learning, and statistical modeling to drive data products that support critical healthcare initiatives.

What You Bring:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
  • 6+ years of experience in data science, with hands-on experience in programming (including Python, R, etc.) and building data products.
  • Solid experience with big data platforms (Map/Reduce, YARN, HDFS), query building (PL/SQL, HIVE, SparkSQL), and data visualization tools (QlikView, Tableau, etc.).
  • Advanced statistical modeling skills, including regression, decision trees, support vector machines, and neural networks.
  • Proven ability to lead data science projects, including working with business stakeholders to define objectives, execute, and iterate.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git/GitHub.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the healthcare or consulting industry is a plus.
  • Experience with Databricks and other cloud-based data platforms is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience building data products that integrate seamlessly into business operations.
