As a Lead Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll contribute to cutting-edge AI solutions powering personalized recommendations for millions of guests across Target.com and the Target App. Working in our in-house tech team, you’ll blend creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration to revolutionize the way we serve our guests.


What You’ll Do

  • Innovate with ML Solutions: Design, build, and optimize machine learning models for personalized shopping experiences.
  • Engineer Excellence: Implement end-to-end ML applications, including data pipelines, model deployment, and API design.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to translate business requirements into scalable AI solutions.
  • Code with Precision: Write maintainable, well-tested code using Python, PySpark, and leading ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and XGBoost.
  • Lead and Inspire: Mentor junior team members in ML skills and career development while contributing to organizational knowledge and strategy.
  • Optimize Big Data: Leverage technologies like Hadoop, Kafka, and Spark to power AI-driven solutions.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for seamless model deployment and system reliability.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in machine learning application development, deployment, and optimization.
  • Expertise in Python, PySpark, and ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and XGBoost.
  • Proficiency in cloud ML platforms such as Vertex AI, Azure ML, or SageMaker.
  • Experience with distributed training frameworks and serving systems like Spark, TensorFlow Serving, or FastAPI.
  • Strong background in Big Data technologies and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to mentor and lead others.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in hybrid environments with both on-site and virtual collaboration.
  • Knowledge of the retail or e-commerce domain is a plus.
