What You'll Do
As the Senior Staff ML Engineer, you’ll:
- Drive Innovation: Lead Generative AI initiatives, identify transformative opportunities, and apply cutting-edge techniques to create scalable solutions for Uber’s customer support.
- Develop at Scale: Build and launch large-scale AI models, ensuring they address complex support policies and operate seamlessly at Uber scale.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including engineers, product managers, and researchers, to bring AI solutions from ideation to production.
- Mentor & Lead: Inspire and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous growth.
- Push the Bar: Establish and uphold engineering best practices, ensuring delivery of high-quality, robust, and reliable AI systems.
What You'll Bring
Basic Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- PhD in Computer Science (or equivalent) + 4 years of software engineering experience OR 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years focused on AI/ML.
- Expertise in NLP & Generative AI:
- Deep knowledge of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Generative AI models.
- Track Record of Impact:
- Proven success in developing and deploying large-scale deep learning models to solve real-world challenges.
- Proficiency in ML Frameworks:
- Hands-on experience with tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Caffe.
- Coding Mastery:
- Write clean, efficient, and scalable code in languages such as Java or Go.
- Leadership Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver results on large-scale projects.
- Growth Mindset:
- Strong desire to learn, innovate, and inspire others to excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Generative AI Product Expertise:
- Experience building and launching Generative AI products at scale.

For San Francisco-based roles, the base salary ranges from $252,000 to $280,000/year, with eligibility for:
