About the Role:

As a Research Engineer on our team, you will play a key role in researching and developing improvements to our models. We combine reinforcement learning and product development to make our models smarter, more reliable, and more impactful at scale. You'll leverage both creative engineering and state-of-the-art research methods to enhance the performance of OpenAI's models—helping them deliver experiences that feel nothing short of magical.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Innovate at Scale: Tackle high-leverage problems to improve model behavior for users at scale.
• Research & Development: Use cutting-edge methods to understand user interactions with our models and identify areas for improvement.
• Design & Implement: Build, test, and debug code across both our product and research stacks, creating solutions that improve model performance.
• Evaluate Impact: Develop robust evaluations to track improvements in model behavior and user outcomes.
• Experiment & Improve: Own and support experiments designed to tweak and refine model behavior, pushing the envelope of what’s possible.

• Evaluate Models: You have experience building evaluations to improve model capabilities and enhance their usefulness to users.
• Collaborate Cross-functionally: You’re skilled at working with diverse teams to ensure that new systems and tools are reliable, scalable, and sustainable.
• Love to Dive Deep: You get excited about analyzing data from different sources to uncover patterns and insights that drive real-world impact.
