At MaxLinear, we believe in pushing the boundaries of communications technology to create smarter, more connected solutions. We’re on a mission to revolutionize how the world communicates, and we need a Principal Signal & Power Integrity Engineer to help lead the charge. In this exciting role, you’ll be at the forefront of developing state-of-the-art packages and PCBs for next-gen products that power 5G communications, RF/millimeter-wave modems, and optical communications for AI-driven data center connectivity.
If you're a hands-on engineer who thrives on solving complex signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) challenges, then this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. Bring your expertise in high-speed designs, simulation tools, and system-level problem solving to MaxLinear, and help shape the future of data connectivity and wireless communication.
As a Principal SI/PI Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
Designing High-Speed Signal Interfaces: Developing and simulating signal and power integrity solutions for SoC packages, PCBs, and high-speed interconnects used in advanced communication systems.
Leading Package Development: Collaborate across functional teams (systems, IC design, PCB/IC layout, test, and characterization) to develop and optimize package designs for high-performance components.
Performing SI/PI Simulations: Utilize cutting-edge tools to perform signal and power integrity simulations, optimizing high-speed channels for SerDes, and conducting transient simulations for both SI and PI.
Simulating Power Distribution Networks (PDN): Design power distribution networks and ensure power integrity through careful analysis of S-parameters, Smith charts, and frequency domain analysis.
Collaborating with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with teams from systems engineering to IC layout and test to ensure all design specifications are met and high-quality standards are maintained.
Driving Innovation: Push the boundaries of what’s possible in RF/microwave design, working on next-gen products like PAM4 800G/1.6Tbps DSPs, TIAs, and 5G transceivers.
We’re looking for a candidate with:
Deep Expertise in Electromagnetics: Strong understanding of microwave theory, transmission lines, and signal propagation.
Hands-On Experience with SI/PI Design and Simulations: At least 7-9 years of experience designing high-speed components, including experience with ANSYS HFSS, SIwave, Cadence Sigrity, or similar field solvers.
Simulation Mastery: Proficiency in time-domain and frequency-domain analysis, with tools like ADS, SPECTRE, and S-parameters.
Lab Measurement Expertise: Experience using lab tools such as Spectrum Analyzers, VNAs, Oscilloscopes, and TDR to validate designs.
Collaboration and Leadership: Ability to manage complex development projects and work across teams to bring high-performance solutions to life.
Educational Background: A BS in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 7 years of relevant experience, or MS + 5 years or PhD + 4 years of experience.
While not required, the following are considered a plus:
Experience with Layout Tools: Familiarity with Cadence Allegro, APD, and other PCB layout tools.
Electro-Optic Integration: Experience with co-packaging of DC-DC converters, regulators, TIAs, and optical drivers.
Multi-Chip Package Design: Knowledge of IC design flows, floor planning, IO ring design, and on-chip decoupling.
Industry Standards: Understanding of IEEE and Optical standards to define design guidelines.
MaxLinear is at the cutting edge of RF and analog technologies, enabling global communication networks and AI-powered connectivity. With a focus on high-performance designs, our global team thrives on innovation, creativity, and collaboration. You’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting, high-impact projects in communications technology.
