Position Title: NCEAS Wildfire Resilience Index Data Analyst
Location: Santa Barbara, California (with a view as inspiring as the work you'll do!)
Salary Range: $65K–$70K annual + full benefits
Start Date: February 1, 2025 (flexible)
Duration: Initial 12-month appointment with potential extension based on funding and performance

The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) invites a driven Data Analyst to join our team in building the first-ever Western Wildfire Resilience Index! Think of it as the ultimate toolkit for policymakers and communities, combining science and strategy to improve wildfire resilience across the US and Canadian West.

???? As part of a dynamic team of analysts, researchers, and tech wizards, you’ll:

  • Develop data pipelines and reproducible workflows to synthesize diverse datasets (think GIS, remote sensing, and more).
  • Leverage machine learning and AI to craft groundbreaking solutions.
  • Collaborate with experts to transform complex metrics into actionable insights through engaging visualizations and interactive tools.
  • Help create a resource that makes wildfire resilience as understandable as checking your weather app!

Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, data science, computer science, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience with hands-on data analysis.
  • Proficiency in R or Python, with an appetite for clean, efficient coding.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and data visualization tools.
  • A knack for synthesizing complex datasets and communicating findings clearly.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Passion for science, innovation, and making a difference in the fight against wildfires.
