As Music Director, you'll oversee The Current’s music strategy, inspire a team of experts, and ensure that our content stays fresh, relevant, and impactful. You’ll lead collaborations with artists, industry partners, and internal teams to craft content that elevates our community and increases public support for MPR.

What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of music experts to curate dynamic broadcast and digital content that defines The Current’s sound.
- Collaborate with leadership on programming strategies and digital initiatives to grow our audience.
- Direct content creation for artists, including recording sessions and remote production.
- Utilize music data and audience analytics to create reports that drive decision-making.
- Serve as the primary contact for artists seeking airplay and industry stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with marketing, promotions, and revenue teams to grow community support for MPR.
- Support local music initiatives like The Local Show and community outreach programs.
- Oversee talent recruitment for station events and activations.
- Maintain music libraries and ensure FCC compliance.
- Stay in tune with current music trends and attend local events to nurture community connections.
- Foster a collaborative, high-energy culture in the music department and across teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in the radio or music industry, with a proven track record in music direction.
- Leadership experience with the ability to inspire and manage a creative team.
- A deep love and knowledge of The Current’s music and its unique sound and direction.
- Strong understanding of public media trends, audience analytics, and algorithmic playlists.
- Familiarity with music management software, scheduling, and streaming analytics.
- Exceptional communication skills—clear, concise, and effective in all formats.
- Proficient in productivity tools like Microsoft 365 and music management software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AI-based tools and music scheduling software.
- Background in multichannel content creation and collaborating with digital service providers (DSPs).
- A passion for innovation in the non-profit sector and community engagement.
