The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Associate Vice President (AVP) for the Center for Institutional Evaluation, Research, and Planning (CIERP). As a key member of the University Cabinet, you will guide and shape the strategic direction of UTEP by leveraging data, research, and analytics to support institutional decision-making and long-term goals.
About the Role
The AVP is a visionary leader who will oversee and drive initiatives to enhance UTEP’s institutional performance and student success through comprehensive data analysis and strategic partnerships. You will work closely with senior university leadership to guide planning, policy formulation, and resource allocation, ensuring UTEP stays at the forefront of higher education excellence.
In addition, you will be responsible for leading CIERP, managing the university’s research and data governance, and collaborating with stakeholders across the institution to elevate the role of data in strategic planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Lead collaborations with senior administrators to evaluate institutional outcomes and uncover opportunities for growth.
- Data Storytelling: Interpret and present data in compelling ways that tell UTEP’s story, highlighting both progress and opportunities.
- Institutional Research: Oversee and design institutional research studies that support continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and student success.
- Data Governance: Lead the development and implementation of a robust data governance framework, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility across the university.
- Reporting and Insights: Analyze data to produce reports, executive summaries, and visualizations that drive informed decision-making.
- State and Federal Reporting: Respond to requests from state, federal, and accrediting bodies and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Operational Excellence: Manage CIERP’s operations, including budget, and maintain effective communication across departments and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, research-based discipline, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum 6 years of senior leadership experience, including at least 5 years in institutional research or a similar role.
- Proven track record of managing complex projects, leading teams, and communicating data to diverse audiences.
- Expertise in data analysis, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and statistics.
- Skills:
- Strong proficiency in relational databases, Microsoft Excel, and statistical tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports for accreditation, strategic planning, and grant applications.
- Ability to lead and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Technical Skills: Experience with PeopleSoft, Banner, MS SQL SSMS, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
- Leadership Experience: Experience leading policy analysis and strategic implementation in a complex, data-driven environment.
- Advanced Tools: Familiarity with AI tools in evaluation and assessment.
