We're seeking a Data Scientist 3 to shape the future of active acoustic (echosounder) data analysis, advancing echo classification to the lowest taxonomic level in near-real time.
???? Your Role in Innovation
As part of our Advanced Technology and Innovation Branch team, you'll:
- Harness AI Power: Develop and test AI/ML models and Bayesian approaches to classify acoustic backscatter with precision and speed.
- Cloud Analytics Pioneer: Build and operationalize cloud-based data pipelines for advanced echosounder analysis.
- Collaborate & Lead: Work alongside commercial and academic partners to create toolboxes for automated and semi-automated echo classification.
- Push Research Boundaries: Explore novel echo processing methods and refine algorithms for robust, scalable solutions.
- Mentor & Share Knowledge: Communicate research findings and train others on advanced data processing methods.

- Doctorate degree in a relevant field
- Proficiency in machine learning and AI techniques
- Expertise in Python or R
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Familiarity with Bayesian modeling and relational databases
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn echosounder data software (Echoview, Echopype, PyEchoLab)
- A collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, and enthusiasm for marine data innovation
