The University of Pennsylvania is seeking Course Assistants for MSSP 6070: Practical Programming for Data Science, a hands-on course designed for students with no prior programming experience. Help shape the future of data science by supporting students as they master the basics of programming and software development for data-driven applications!
What You’ll Do:
As a Course Assistant, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding students through their programming journey. Your responsibilities will include:
- Grading Assignments & Class Participation: Assess students’ progress on assignments, exams, and active participation, providing feedback to help them grow.
- Course Content & Design: Collaborate with the instructor to design engaging assignments that challenge students and reinforce programming concepts.
- Answering Questions: Respond to students' inquiries via email or Ed Discussion regarding course content, logistics, and grading. You’ll escalate complex issues to the instructor.
- Lab Sessions: If applicable, design and lead lab sessions based on past materials or work with the instructor to create new interactive labs.
- Lecture Participation: Attend lectures (or review course materials if you are unable to attend) to stay in sync with course content and student progress.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong Python Programming Skills: You must have a deep understanding of Python programming, as demonstrated through relevant coursework, degrees, or professional experience.
- Good Communication & Teaching Abilities: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and support students effectively.
- Attention to Detail & Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage grading and lab sessions while ensuring accurate and timely feedback.
- Flexible and Collaborative: Willingness to adapt to students’ needs and work closely with the instructor to ensure the course runs smoothly.
Additional Information:
- Hours: Course Assistants can expect to work 7-10 hours per week, with a maximum of 100 hours over the course of the semester.
- Pay: $25/hour, up to a total of $2,500 for the semester.
- Location: This position is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the School of Social Policy and Practice.
