As we continue to push the boundaries of AI systems, our Monitoring Operations team plays a crucial role in keeping our products safe and ensuring they are used responsibly. We are looking for a Data Scientist who will work at the intersection of product monitoring, safety, and investigations to proactively identify and mitigate abuse on our platforms.


What You'll Do:

???? Proactive Monitoring:

  • Build and implement monitoring systems to detect and prevent abuse on OpenAI's products.
  • Work closely with Product, Policy, and Engineering teams to define risks and ensure our monitoring tools are robust and ready for new product launches.

?? Sustain Monitoring Operations:

  • Develop scalable, automated processes to improve monitoring of existing products.
  • Continuously refine systems to handle complex data efficiently and mitigate emerging risks in real time.

???? Respond to Critical Escalations:

  • Address urgent, high-priority escalations that may not be caught by current safety systems, involving sensitive or challenging content.
  • Collaborate across teams to create data-backed safety policies and solutions.

What We're Looking For:

???? Experience:

  • At least 4 years of experience doing technical analysis, particularly with SQL and Python.
  • Strong background in trust and safety or experience collaborating with policy, enforcement, and engineering teams to manage abuse detection.

???? Technical Skills:

  • Experience with basic data engineering (building core tables, writing data pipelines).
  • Familiarity with scaling and automating processes, especially within AI and language models.
  • Understanding of data systems and the ability to create tooling that supports real-time safety efforts.

???? Collaboration:

  • You thrive in a cross-functional environment, working closely with engineering, policy, and product teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
