As an Applied Scientist, you’ll be an integral part of the AI/ML team, driving innovative solutions that power the next generation of intelligent document understanding. You'll apply cutting-edge techniques in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and deep learning to solve complex challenges, delivering real-world impact on the DocuSign Agreement Platform.
What You'll Do:
???? Build Advanced AI/ML Models:
- Dive deep into NLP and document understanding to create intelligent features that improve the customer experience across the platform.
- Use the latest deep learning methods to tackle complex challenges in semantic retrieval, text understanding, contextual extraction, and more.
- Apply state-of-the-art architectures to build DocuSign’s proprietary IP, driving automation and personalization in our product suite.
???? Research & Innovate:
- Experiment with the latest deep learning technologies, conducting research to continuously evolve our models and algorithms.
- Innovate in the space of text extraction, including work with OCR and direct extractions from formats like PDF, docx, and images.
???? Collaborate Across Teams:
- Partner with engineering teams to deploy and scale machine learning models into production.
- Work with Product Management to ensure machine learning solutions align with customer needs and translate product requirements into scalable, effective AI solutions.
???? Optimize & Improve:
- Monitor and refine model performance, analyzing feedback to optimize results and adapt to user feedback.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of AI features by defining metrics and monitoring effectiveness in production.
What We’re Looking For:
???? Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, or a related field (or 3+ years with a Master’s degree, or a PhD).
- Proficiency in Python and experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent deep learning frameworks.
- Strong experience in building, training, and monitoring machine learning models for large-scale applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related computational field.
???? Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with document understanding models, especially in OCR, text extraction, and working with unstructured data (e.g., PDF, docx).
- Familiarity with NLP techniques including Large Language Models (LLMs) and semantic text representations.
- A passion for staying ahead of AI industry trends and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of data cleaning, processing, and model evaluation.
What We Offer:

- Base salary range based on location and experience:
- California: $151,800 - $245,150
- Washington, New Jersey, and New York (NYC metro area): $145,800 - $214,350
