Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist

We're looking for a Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist to join Dr. Sisi Ma’s research team at the Institute for Health Informatics (IHI). This position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in computational causal discovery, predictive modeling, and their applications in biomedicine and health.

What You’ll Do

???? Analytical Experiments (60%):

  • Design and implement data processing and analysis infrastructure.
  • Conduct computational experiments to benchmark machine learning algorithms using real-world biomedical data.

???? Algorithm Development (25%):

  • Implement machine learning, statistical, and bioinformatics algorithms to advance healthcare research.
  • Create software documentation and present findings to stakeholders.

???? Publications and Presentations (10%):

  • Write reports and publications based on your research.
  • Present findings to customers, scientists, and clinicians to influence decision-making.

???? Mentorship (5%):

  • Mentor junior data scientists and foster an environment of growth and learning within the team.

What We’re Looking For

? Education: M.A./M.S. in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Physics, Informatics, or a related technical field.
???? Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Matlab, Python, or R.
  • Experience with SQL or similar database technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to write complex code and share samples (e.g., GitHub).

???? Data Expertise:

  • Experience with machine learning and statistical methods.
  • Familiarity with messy, real-world data and the ability to clean and process it effectively.

???? Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting technical content to diverse audiences.


Additional Desirable Qualifications (Not Required)

  • High-performance computing experience.
  • Skills in data visualization.
  • Research experience in statistics/data science.
  • Published scientific papers in conferences or journals.
