About the Role:

As the Manager of Data Science, you'll lead a talented, hybrid-remote team of Data Scientists tasked with delivering enterprise intelligence to MTA’s leadership, front-line managers, and strategic stakeholders. Your work will focus on leading data-driven projects, fostering team development, and guiding the agency's transition toward a data-centric model of operations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

???? Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and mentor a team of Data Scientists through coaching, technical upskilling, and performance management.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the team.

???? Data-Driven Product Management

• Manage your team's product pipeline, scoping and prioritizing tasks to meet critical deadlines.
• Serve as Scrum Master, executing Agile rituals to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.

???? Technical Strategy & Execution

• Design and supervise the implementation of well-structured data pipelines and CI/CD workflows.
• Develop analytics-ready data models aligned with stakeholder needs.
• Apply advanced statistical techniques, including causal inference, regression analysis, and machine learning.

???? Cross-Department Collaboration & Stakeholder Delight

• Partner with data teams across the MTA to create unified, high-impact data solutions.
• Translate complex technical insights into actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Who You Are:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Analytics, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• Experience:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in SQL, R, or Python programming
  • 2+ years working on a Scrum team in an Agile environment
  • 1+ year with version control (Git) and cloud-based services (e.g., GitHub)
• Analytical Mastery: Proficiency in causal inference, regression analysis, and predictive modeling.
• Problem-Solver: Adept at using large language models (like ChatGPT) for creative problem-solving.
• Communication Pro: Clear and respectful communicator to diverse audiences.
• Preferred: Experience with people management.
