About the Team
The AI team at Xero is where Applied Scientists and ML Engineers come together to build impactful, AI-driven systems. Our AI Products group is focused on delivering the right insights at the right time, using advanced technologies to reduce manual work and create seamless, intuitive product experiences.
As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will join a diverse, globally distributed team of scientists, engineers, product managers, and analysts, helping Xero harness the power of data to create beautiful, insightful products that make a difference in the lives of small business owners.
What You’ll Do
???? Lead Cutting-Edge AI Research & Product Delivery
- Lead the scientific direction of cross-functional AI product teams, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and pushing the boundaries of AI/ML potential.
- Work with engineers to manage the technical debt and costs across the AI stack.
???? Collaborate Across Teams
- Work closely with engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure that we are solving the right problems with the right AI/ML methods.
- Improve the quality and usability of data across teams at Xero.
???? Influence Xero’s AI Vision
- Share knowledge and elevate the capabilities of the AI Products team by contributing to knowledge-sharing practices.
- Represent Xero in the AI community through public-facing content and events, contributing to our growing profile in the AI space.
About You
???? 5+ Years of Experience in AI/ML Product Delivery
- You've led AI/ML projects from inception to delivery, ensuring that they reach real customers and have a significant impact.
???? You Love Solving Hard Problems
- You’re drawn to complex, unstructured problems and can find innovative solutions using AI.
???? Research & Adaptation
- You’re comfortable reading research papers and adapting them to real-world applications, finding ways to push the boundaries of existing AI capabilities.
????????? High-Quality Code
- You understand the importance of writing high-quality, maintainable code from day one—prioritizing this even before production.
???? Constant Growth & Learning
- You’re always learning and growing as a professional, keeping up with the latest advancements in AI, ML, and related technologies.
What You’ll Bring
???? Technical Expertise in AI/ML
- Proficient in Python, Scala, or similar programming languages.
- Expert-level skills in areas like time series forecasting, natural language processing, classical machine learning, and deep learning.
???? Strong Mathematical Foundation
- Ability to grasp and teach the mathematical concepts underpinning AI/ML domains.
???? Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Ability to translate between the business and technical aspects of machine learning to ensure alignment with product goals and strategies.
