Red Alpha is known for its top-tier software and systems engineering, with a special focus on solving real-world challenges for the Department of Defense. But our reputation doesn’t stop there. As our clients’ data science needs have grown, we’ve expanded our expertise into the world of Data Science—and that’s where you come in. We need passionate, pragmatic problem solvers who thrive in collaborative environments and love bringing innovative solutions to complex problems.
Who We Are
At Red Alpha, we’re serious about our work, but we’re not about taking ourselves too seriously. We’ve spent our fair share of time in the trenches, cursing at daylight savings time and cleaning up messy datasets. Our team operates on the belief that we spend 80% of our time cleaning data—and 20% complaining about it. If that resonates with you, you might just be the perfect fit for our team.
We take a pragmatic approach to data science—balancing technical expertise, business acumen, and communication skills to tackle big challenges with practical, effective solutions. Whether you're a seasoned Data Scientist, an Applied Research Mathematician, a Database Engineer, or a Full Stack Developer, if you can dive into complex data, make sense of it, and help us drive impactful results—let’s talk.
A Day in the Life
As a Principal Data Scientist, you will be part of a dynamic team working on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. You’ll have the unique freedom to build prototypes, test proof-of-concepts, and contribute your original ideas to critical customer needs. You’ll work in an Open-Source environment using commercial cloud resources, collaborating with Data Scientists, Developers, and Cloud Architects to develop end-to-end data solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Data Architecture: Identify, catalog, and analyze diverse datasets across systems to extract actionable insights.
- Data Engineering: Develop efficient strategies for data-in-transit and data-at-rest, maximizing performance while minimizing overhead.
- Machine Learning: Train and deploy NLP models and other advanced machine learning techniques to automate analysis and drive actionable insights.
- Data Visualization: Create custom dashboards and interactive interfaces to present data findings clearly and compellingly.
What You Bring to the Table:
We’re hiring across multiple levels, from entry-level to senior leadership, so if you meet some of the following, we want to hear from you!
- Proficiency in Python or R: Familiarity with libraries like pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, gensim, etc.
- Experience with Data Science Techniques: Comfort with methods like classification, clustering, random forests, deep learning, and more.
- Educational Background: B.S. in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields.
- Experience:
- Entry-Level: 0–3 years in data science.
- Mid-Level: 3–6 years in data science.
- Senior-Level: 6+ years with at least 3 years managing teams.
- Security Clearance: Must hold a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
For this specific role, we’re looking for:
- Advanced Technical Expertise in Python (pandas, numpy, scipy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and ML technologies (Jupyter Notebooks, deep learning models, etc.).
- Experience with Cloud Environments: AWS, Azure, and familiarity with ElasticSearch, SQL, and Apache NiFi.
- Data Visualization: Experience with tools like Kibana, Tableau, or Splunk.
- Agile Development: Familiarity with Agile practices, automated testing, and continuous integration.
Bonus Skills:
- AWS Cloud Development & Infrastructure Management
