About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist / AI Engineer to join our team, supporting Allied Command Transformation (ACT) — NATO's driving force for continuous transformation and future warfare. This exciting opportunity will have you directly involved in integrating AI into NATO's wargaming efforts, pushing the boundaries of military strategy, and exploring new ways to enhance AI's role in multi-domain operations. You’ll work alongside NATO’s experts to apply cutting-edge AI techniques to improve wargaming simulations and decision-making processes, ensuring NATO remains at the forefront of military innovation.
Your Responsibilities
As a Data Scientist / AI Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in advancing NATO's digital transformation and AI adoption, specifically within the realm of wargaming. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- AI Integration: Contribute to the seamless integration of AI into NATO’s wargaming systems and future warfare development efforts.
- Collaborative AI Innovation: Work with wargaming experts to identify opportunities where AI can enhance strategic, operational, and tactical simulations.
- AI Roadmap Development: Help develop a roadmap for the integration of AI technologies into NATO’s wargaming infrastructure.
- Real-Time Analytics: Implement real-time analytics and visualizations to aid decision-making during complex wargaming simulations.
- Human-Machine Teaming: Integrate AI tools for enhanced collaboration between human and machine, improving operational effectiveness.
- Experimentation & Testing: Design and conduct AI experiments in wargaming scenarios, measuring outcomes to refine processes.
- Data Integrity & Security: Ensure AI-related data is secure and adheres to NATO’s Principles of Responsible Use.
- Training & Education: Develop training programs for NATO personnel on using AI technologies in wargaming environments.
- Multimedia & Content Creation: Explore the use of AI for multimedia content generation (e.g., short videos) to support wargaming scenarios and preparatory materials.
- Continuous Learning: Participate in conferences, workshops, and meetings to stay at the forefront of AI technologies and methodologies.
What You Bring to the Table
We’re looking for an experienced Data Scientist / AI Engineer with a passion for innovation and a deep understanding of both military wargaming principles and cutting-edge AI technologies:
- 4+ years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or AI engineering (excluding studies).
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience integrating AI technologies into practical, real-world applications.
- Proficiency in AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn.
- Familiarity with generative AI models and experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Data visualization and analysis expertise using tools like Python, R, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience managing AI projects, including planning, execution, and reporting.
- Ability to work in cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with wargaming principles and methodologies, and how AI can enhance strategic simulations.
- Knowledge of data security best practices and principles.
Education & Credentials
- A University degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field.
- OR a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in Data Science, ML, or AI in the last 5 years.
- NATO or National Secret personal security clearance is required.
