What You'll Do:

  • Data Exploration & Analysis: Query relational databases, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) and insurance claims data, to build datasets that inform high-impact biomedical research.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with research teams to gather requirements, validate data, and ensure alignment with study goals. Your ability to communicate complex data insights will be key to the success of our research projects.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure HIPAA and regulatory compliance across all aspects of data handling and analysis.
  • Leadership in Research Infrastructure: Develop and refine the technical infrastructure that supports biomedical research across VCU’s vast network of collaborators.
  • Peer Review & Mentorship: Peer review the work of fellow analysts, fostering a collaborative environment where continuous learning and improvement are valued.
  • Consultative Approach: Guide study teams in research pathways, providing expert advice to advance research methodologies and outcomes.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Proven experience in querying and analyzing data from relational databases (EHR, insurance claims, etc.) for research purposes.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with biomedical informatics tools and methodologies, as well as a strong understanding of HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Education: A degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics, or similar).
  • Preferred Experience: Experience working in a clinical or translational research setting is a plus.
