About the Role:
Join California State University, Bakersfield’s (CSUB) diverse and dynamic community as an AANHPI Assistant within the MAGEC program. This temporary full-time position plays an important role in supporting Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students by fostering a sense of belonging, promoting cultural identity development, and facilitating culturally relevant programming. With a primary focus on student engagement, mentorship, and outreach, you will help enrich the AANHPI student experience while contributing to the university's pursuit of an AANAPISI designation.

As part of the Student Affairs team, you’ll support key initiatives that ensure AANHPI students are well-resourced and prepared to succeed academically, socially, and professionally. What You’ll Do:

  • Student Engagement & Program Support:

    • Provide guidance to AANHPI student organizations and connect them with essential campus resources.
    • Assist in organizing and promoting cultural celebrations, socio-cultural projects, and campus-wide initiatives that highlight AANHPI history and contributions.
    • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support AANHPI student engagement in academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Summer Bridge & Mentorship Program:

    • Support the implementation of a Summer Bridge program for incoming AANHPI students to ensure a smooth transition into university life.
    • Assist in recruiting and training peer mentors to guide and support AANHPI students throughout their academic journey.
    • Facilitate mentorship opportunities by connecting students with faculty, staff, and community leaders.
  • Recruitment & Outreach:

    • Partner with the Enrollment Management team to enhance outreach efforts to prospective AANHPI students.
    • Help maintain relationships with local schools and organizations serving AANHPI communities.
    • Assist in developing marketing materials to showcase CSUB’s commitment to supporting AANHPI students.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Education & Experience:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as Behavioral Science, Public Administration, or a similar discipline).
    • One year of recent related experience, ideally in student services, community engagement, or cultural programming.
  • Skills & Knowledge:

    • Strong knowledge and appreciation of AANHPI cultures, histories, and contributions.
    • Cultural competency and the ability to engage effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present information clearly and effectively.
    • Demonstrated ability to assess student needs and provide appropriate resources and support.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficiency in computer applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, and email.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience working with AANHPI student populations or community organizations.
  • Proven ability to coordinate programs and collaborate across departments to meet shared goals.
