About the Role:As a Video Compression Research Scientist at Qualcomm, you’ll work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and video compression, helping to develop next-gen solutions that will redefine video encoding and streaming technologies. You’ll join an elite team of experts driving groundbreaking research in machine learning-based video compression algorithms, while collaborating on exciting use cases in video processing, point cloud coding, and immersive technologies like AR/VR.

What You’ll Do:
- Develop neural network-based algorithms for advanced video compression, pushing the limits of both classical and machine learning approaches.
- Represent Qualcomm in prestigious standardization forums like JVET, MPEG Video, and ITU-T/VCEG.
- Contribute to the academic and patent landscape, including presenting at conferences, submitting journal papers, and filing patent applications.
- Work closely with a world-class team of engineers, researchers, and industry experts to bring theoretical breakthroughs into real-world applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement your algorithms in Qualcomm’s next-generation hardware and software solutions.
What We’re Looking For:
- Innovative mindset with a track record of successful AI/ML research—bonus points if your work relates to data compression or computer vision.
- In-depth knowledge of video and image coding theory, along with experience in video compression standards like VVC/H.266 or HEVC/H.265.
- Published research in leading conferences and journals, showcasing your expertise and thought leadership.
- Programming skills in Python and C/C++, with hands-on experience in at least one popular machine learning framework (e.g., PyTorch).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A collaborative team spirit, with the ability to drive projects from concept to implementation.
Ideal Qualifications:
- A PhD or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 1+ years of programming experience with languages like C, C++, MATLAB.
- Experience in video compression standards, especially the next-gen technologies powering the industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms specific to video compression.
- Previous experience contributing to video coding standards and video encoding technologies.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Base Salary: $158,400 – $237,600 (depending on experience and location).
