The Role:
As a Data Scientist 1 in the Product Analytics team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of PayPal’s products. From data exploration to advanced analytics, you’ll apply your skills to improve customer experiences and drive profitable growth. If you love working with data to uncover insights, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and experimenting with new ways to optimize product performance, this is the role for you!
What You'll Be Doing:
- Become an expert in your product area and dive deep into data to find opportunities for product improvement and growth.
- Partner across teams (engineering, design, marketing) to experiment and design hypothesis-driven tests that lead to actionable recommendations.
- Leverage cutting-edge data science techniques to optimize experiences for 200+ million customers.
- Use the OKR (Objective & Key Results) framework to define product metrics, create dashboards, and perform ad hoc analysis to monitor performance.
- Tell stories with data: Present your findings to senior leadership and stakeholders to influence business decisions.
- Help build automated systems and data pipelines to drive decisions and optimize product features.
What We're Looking For:
- A curiosity-driven, data-oriented mindset: You’re excited to dig into large datasets, extract meaningful insights, and turn data into actionable recommendations.
- Proficiency in programming: Experience with Python, or any other programming languages for analyzing and visualizing data.
- A strong academic background (PhD or Master’s degree) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their applications to improve product experiences.
- An analytical problem-solver who enjoys experimenting and iterating in fast-paced environments.
- A team player with excellent communication skills who can present technical concepts to non-technical audiences with ease.
Bonus Points If You:
- Have experience working with large, complex datasets in an online or financial services environment.
- Are familiar with A/B testing, hypothesis testing, and experiment design to make data-driven decisions.
- Know your way around data visualization tools (like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker).

Compensation:
The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $72,700 to $176,000, with opportunities for performance bonuses, stock options, and more.
