The Travis County Auditor’s Office plays a crucial role in ensuring integrity and efficiency within county operations. With a focus on financial transparency and risk management, we work to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly and effectively. As part of the REC Division, you will leverage your data science expertise to support our efforts in delivering insightful audits and ensuring compliance across the organization.
Data-driven Insights: Use your advanced statistical analysis and visualization skills to empower audits across various departments, helping uncover valuable insights that ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
Transform Data for Impact: Extract, process, and transform large and complex datasets, creating routines to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data, which will be key to driving audit success.
Collaboration: Work closely with internal auditors to provide data-driven support for ongoing audits. You’ll be the data expert who assists in solving complex problems with both quantitative and qualitative data.
Continuous Monitoring: Develop and implement automated monitoring processes to ensure continuous auditing, helping to identify discrepancies and anomalies in real-time.
Validate & Verify: Apply professional skepticism when assessing data sources to ensure the completeness, relevance, and accuracy of the data provided, maintaining high standards of quality and confidentiality.
Communicate Your Findings: Use data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Python to translate complex analytical findings into easily understandable reports for stakeholders at all levels.
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Accounting, or related field. A Master’s or PhD in a related field is highly desirable!
Professional Experience: Ideally, 2+ years of hands-on experience in data science, statistical analysis, or similar fields, with an understanding of both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical findings to non-technical audiences.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to extract meaningful insights from large datasets and communicate actionable findings that drive decision-making and improve processes.
Security & Confidentiality: Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive government data, passing an FBI criminal background check, and obtaining security clearance as required.
