Job Description:

  • The Electromechanical Systems Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electromechanical systems and components for our products.
  • Leveraging strong engineering fundamentals, this role involves following established processes while also contributing to new designs, assemblies, and innovative methods.


 


 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct electromechanical design and integration for systems including, but not limited to, trailer structures, axles, suspension, brakes, transport refrigeration units (TRUs), combustion engines, high voltage batteries, electric motors, power electronics, charging systems, wire harnesses, ECUs, connectors, and thermal management systems.
  • Design new parts and assemblies using Catia and SolidWorks.
  • Integrate legacy components and supplier-provided parts to ensure accurate package compatibility.
  • Perform or oversee stress and thermal analyses on parts and assemblies as required.
  • Research advanced technology topics to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Conduct physical testing, including thermal soak chamber evaluations, and reduce datasets to identify cause-and-effect relationships. Document findings in test reports.
  • Generate test results and objective data to inform engineering decisions and research initiatives.
  • Provide support during prototype builds.
  • Prepare specifications, requirements documents, and summary presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Manage projects, including tracking open issues, leading regular meetings, and following up with stakeholders.
  • Communicate work progress, issues, and additional support needs regularly.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to determine feasibility and tooling requirements for new designs.
  • Partner with Production Engineering to confirm readiness for new design launches.
  • Travel to manufacturing plants as necessary.
  • Work with suppliers to share information needed to test, release, and manufacture new designs.
  • Coordinate with other portfolio companies as required.


 

Technical Focus Areas:

  • Approx. 50% of the work involves electrical, systems, and electromechanical engineering and analysis.
  • Approx. 50% of the work involves design tasks using Catia and SolidWorks.


 

Additional Duties:

  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.


 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent.


 

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience in a related engineering field, with at least 3 years in automotive, trailers, heavy equipment, or a related industry.
  • Experience with vehicle electrification and electronic systems is highly valued.


 

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Catia and SolidWorks for design and engineering tasks.
  • Preferred experience in wire harness routing.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with representatives from various departments and organizations.
  • Capability to manage projects independently with minimal supervision, setting work goals based on outlined objectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
